How to Make Your Own Easy, Natural Lotion for Healthy Skin

A few years ago, I discovered just how simple and affordable it is to create your own lotion. It’s not only cost-effective, but you can also make it with all-natural ingredients, which made me wonder why anyone would buy store-bought lotions packed with chemicals. Plus, I have eczema, which makes my skin sensitive to many products. Making my own lotion became the perfect solution for me.

To start, the basic ingredients for a homemade lotion are simple: water, oil, and an emulsifier. An emulsifier is an ingredient that helps blend the water and oil together, so they don’t separate. Here’s the base recipe I use to make my lotion:

½ cup distilled water
½ cup oil (I prefer olive, almond, macadamia nut, or grape seed oil)
1 tablespoon liquid lecithin (emulsifier)
From here, you can get creative by adding essential oils, mixing different oils, or even infusing herbs into the water before blending in the oils. Here’s a wonderful winter lotion recipe to get you started:

½ cup distilled water
½ cup olive oil
1 tablespoon lecithin
6-8 drops geranium essential oil
2-4 drops myrrh essential oil
400 IU vitamin E oil (from 1-2 capsules)
Geranium oil helps rejuvenate dry skin and balances mature or wrinkled skin. Myrrh oil is a mild, moisture-restoring oil that helps replenish the skin. Vitamin E oil is a powerful antioxidant, protecting your skin and acting as a natural preservative.

To make the lotion, blend all ingredients in a blender on the whip or cream setting. The result will be a creamy, firm lotion. If you prefer a lighter lotion, simply add more water.

Store your lotion in the refrigerator if you’re in a warm climate, or keep it in a cool place. Be sure to shake it well before each use.

Enjoy your homemade lotion! Hopefully, this recipe sparks your creativity and encourages you to experiment with different ingredients to create a lotion that’s perfect for your skin.
