Severe Weather Alerts: Flash Flood Warning, Tornado Watch, and Power Outages in Southeast Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS — Severe thunderstorms swept across southeast Louisiana on Saturday evening, prompting multiple warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service.

Traffic Impacts:

The Causeway Bridge, which was temporarily closed due to extreme weather, reopened at 9:44 p.m. The Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission had earlier announced closures for both the Northbound and Southbound Causeway, estimating a one-hour delay. With the weather now cleared, traffic has resumed smoothly.

The Tornado Warning ended at 9:15 p.m., though a Tornado Watch remains in effect for Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi until 2 a.m. A Flash Flood Warning is also active until 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, December 28.

To help residents mitigate potential flooding impacts, NOLA Ready has issued an advisory permitting neutral ground parking until 8 a.m. on Sunday, December 28.

Power Outages:

Severe weather has also caused power outages in various parishes:

  • Washington Parish: Affected 1,426 customers, according to Entergy.
  • Tangipahoa Parish: As of 10:45 p.m., 1,956 customers remain without power, down from a peak of 2,567 earlier in the evening.
